'Ano'ano

'Ano'ano, meaning seed, is a rare art you will see in Hawaiian culture. The most commonly known and used 'ano'ano is the kukui nut and in the early 80's Wiliwili seed lei. Only a few people continue this uncommon art form from which you can find here! These are the 'ano'ano from which you will see on this page.

Hua Weleweka (Mgambo): A dark gray velvet seed which originates from South Africa but are grown and picked on Oahu.
Pu'ohe'ohe (Job's Tears): A light gray or dark brown seed which is in the same family as corn.
Kukui (Candlenut): A dark brown nut that is commonly used for its oil.
Wiliwili (Coral Tree): The native seed color is orange or red. The other colors are black, white, yellow, burgundy, and brown.

All seeds are hand picked, processed, and strung on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
