Lauhala is a pandanus tree from which the leaves are used by weaving them into different materials or items such as baskets, mats, and hats, etc. Most of the leaves collected contain thorny edges from which are cut off. The leaves are then flattened and stripped into the necessary size and woven by hand.
All the Lauhala items below are all hand picked, processed, and hand woven on the island of Oahu.

'Ama'u Earring Collection
'Ama'u is an endemic fern to Hawai'i and can be easily recognized by its red newly frond that as they mature turn green. Our signature weave was named after this particular fern because how the weave resembles the fronds.
We also dyed the Lauhala into four unique colors, red, green, orange, and black. These colors each resembles a different stage in the life of the 'ama'u fern. Red and Orange is the newly grown frond from which comes from the center of the fern. The green reflects the fully matured frond of the 'ama'u which help give the fern its nutrients. Black represents the fallen fronds which surrounds the fern as protection and gives back to the fern from the soil from which it returns.
